Sympathy for the Devil

Artà - Mallorca

CAT

ENG
On January 16, the town burns. There is no audience, only participants: those who dance with the demons, those who flee from them, those who leap into the fire, those who end up sleeping by it. The Mallorcan Night of Sant Antoni is not something you watch, but something you pass through.

These photographs come from one of those nights, at the home of the Cabrer family, who allowed me in and treated me as one of their own. There is no photograph without generosity, and this series would not exist without theirs. The demon in the title is not theatre, but neighborhood: the man you know dressed as something else, doing something ancient.
