Què fa que algú sigui artista? Si hi ha resposta, no la conec. Però mirar un artista treballar — concentrat, dubitatiu, hores i hores fent allò que ningú li ha demanat fer — és, com a mínim, un indici.

Aquestes imatges són del procés de creació del mural col·lectiu *Mar de Inca*, dirigit per Antonio Fernández-Coca el 2022. Inca no té mar, però el mural sí. La sèrie no documenta una obra acabada: documenta les hores en què l'obra es decideix, encara és reversible, i es nota més la mà que el resultat. Quan la pintura s'asseca, el procés desapareix. La fotografia és un dels pocs llocs on continua viu.

What makes someone an artist? If there is an answer, I don’t know it. But watching an artist at work — focused, uncertain, spending hours and hours doing something no one has asked them to do — is, at the very least, a clue.

These images come from the process of creating the collective mural Mar de Inca, directed by Antonio Fernández-Coca in 2022. Inca has no sea, but the mural does. The series does not document a finished work; it documents the hours in which the work is decided, still reversible, when the hand is more visible than the result. When the paint dries, the process disappears. Photography is one of the few places where it remains alive.
